I think teachers have a very important role to play in a students life, especially today when students spend more time at tutions and school then with parents, due to jobs and stuff. A good teacher can really turn a student around, they can generate interest in studies for a student, give them support, encourage them to keep moving forward...
Teachers influence students. Their personality and behaviour is very important when they deal with students. They should project themselves as someone who can help, who is approachable, who has a sense of humour and can crack jokes here and there and of course a confidence in the students that the person knows well about the subject. It is hard to establish all of that.
